The following works require Microsoft Silverlight.

An
exploration of new ways of communicating biography and autobiography
including
linear and
cyclic
forms. Early days!
"Chiswick
DeepZoom" uses images embedded in images ... almost a "steganographical
palimpsest" with layers of the past to be discovered within layers.
"interactive
photo palimpsest" allows the user to manually control how
much of two photos bleed together or are viewed separately. This is
part of some early, continuing work into how new digital
technologies can be used to expose historic palimpsests that
surround us - if only we knew where and how to look.
"senseport
(palimpsest navigator) - maps" provides a "lens" that is able to
reveal layers from the past. The user can freely move the lens
around the contemporary map and peer through the lens to see how
that part of the world looked at an earlier point in its history.
"senseport
(palimpsest navigator) - streets" provides a "lens" that is able
to reveal layers from the past. The user can freely move the lens
around the street scene and peer back into that same street at an
earlier point in its history.
The "Morphing
Maps of West London" provides a new way of revealing the
past of an area between 1805 and 2008. As well as the maps, places
and sounds from the present and past are revealed as you move
backwards and forwards in time.
TimeRadio is the first stage of a project
developing a radio able to tune into sound across time. It's a work
in progress and currently has several different radio "skins" available. Read more and try them out
here. A recent, fourth
addition is the
Leicester
TimeRadio, with a new look and feel.
"London
evocations gallery" - based on
Jeff Paries' Photo Gallery Viewer, takes old photos, sounds, moving images,
anecdotes and other evocations of old and contemporary London and
brings them together in new, interactive and immersive ways (uses Silverlight).
"Layered London"
- a work that modifies the Silverlight Surface demo application to
present a variety of historic and contemporary shots of the same
London scene, enabling users to manipulate past and present. Works
best on touch screens or for example Tablet PCs.
"London - a re-evaluation of time and place" - this work takes
some of the past/current images of places in London (see the
photo demo) and
uses Silverlight to present them in a new, interactive way. This
work in progress will be providing multiple versions of the same
visual images, but with very differing audio stimuli. In parallel,
new ways of interaction and user immersion will be explored.
3D WindowFrame, with accompanying sound, begins to explore how people who have looked through a window in a particular place would have experienced it at different points in time. The first iteration uses a window frame from the South Coast of England and layers in the sounds of V1s arriving over the channel.
The following works require Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF)
"immersive
simulation" - using Windows Presentation Foundation to see how
an installation experience might work. Imagine the 3 images as
existing on 3 large back-projection systems completely filling the
viewer's sensory space ...
[INOPERATIVE AT PRESENT] "morphing streets" - using slow Windows Presentation Foundation morph technique to blur past and present images of a place taken at different times ...
"rotating
photo cube" - using Windows Presentation Foundation.
"about
this site" - a Windows Presentation Foundation overview of aspirations ...

This lab reflects work currently in progress. As pieces are developed and finalised they will migrate from the lab into a showcase intended to demonstrate the capabilities provided by new and emergent creative technologies.
As these are works in active development, they are subject to change without notice and may or may not behave as expected!
